Quail Update

Okay I hear you all whinging that you're sick of my face so I won't be posting any more soon, so here is the update on my quails. Unfortunately there is bad news on top of bad news but there is light at the end of the tunnel. For the first week I had the baby quails in a tub on top of a heat cord with a heat lamp on top. I monitored the temperature and due to a faulty thermometer I couldn't tell whether it was actually 38 degrees celcius like I wanted it or 45 degrees at the hot end. When it was reading 45 degrees c the baby quails were still hunched up underneath it. I do know that babies need a higher temperature but I'm sure they would have let themselves cook. I'm sure quails cooked this way aren't edible. :(

After burning a hole in my arm from quick contact with the heat lamp, I dislodged it and only used the heat cord. I would have kept the quails inside for another two weeks if it wasn't for the fact that heated chic starter absolutely stank of a truckload of stale cooked cheese. In the meantime I had lost about 3-4 babies due to being weaklings. Sad to say the two with splayed legs passed as well. Over the next few weeks a few drowned and a few knew they had learned everything the world had to give and decided to move on. The bad news is, due to the inability to provide proper housing and temperature, I am now left with only a few quails. I wish I could glorify the situation but I can't be bothered. I'll probably edit the post tomorrow to make me sound... kinder. :)
